24×7 patrols, no-illegal parking: Authorities crack down to end Lko-Knp Road gridlock

A surprise inspection of Lucknow-Kanpur Road in Nadarganj locality was conducted on Wednesday to ease traffic congestion and improve road conditions. Officials were directed to immediately ban vehicle parking on the road and ensure challans are issued for violations.

Divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) project director to expedite ongoing road construction by increasing manpower and machinery.

She instructed that heavy vehicles should be regularly diverted from Junab Ganj to prevent bottlenecks. Authorities were also directed to remove illegal structures obstructing drainage work and clear encroachments from the roads through a sustained drive.

The divisional commissioner underlined that the number of patrolling vehicles of NHAI should be increased to ensure round-the-clock monitoring. Officials were told to keep roads free of unnecessary equipment and materials to prevent traffic disruptions

Jacob called for the deployment of additional hydra (cranes) and marshals along the route, with driver details shared in official groups for quick removal of stranded heavy vehicles.

She added that the widening of service lanes along the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway should be expedited, and traffic authorities must be informed in advance about girder placement work.

The flyover routes will remain closed until work on the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is completed, and construction should be carried out at night to reduce traffic disruptions, she instructed officials during an inspection on Wednesday.

During the visit, divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob reached Dahi Chowki, where authorities reported severe congestion due to the ongoing construction of a 51-metre flyover. The narrowed road has led to major traffic bottlenecks, making a temporary diversion from Dahi Chowki necessary. Officials confirmed that the flyover work will be completed within two months, and the diversion plan will remain in effect until then.

District magistrate Unnao Gaurang Rathi, superintendent of police Deepak Bhukar, and NHAI officials were present during the review.
