AR Rahman's ex-wife Saira Banu breaks silence on their divorce and around bassist Mohini Dey: 'He's the best man in the world'

AR Rahman and wife Saira Banu have announced divorce after 29 years of marriage. On the same day, Rahman’s bassist Mohini Dey announced her divorce with her husband. This raised a lot of speculations and rumours. Rahman reacted to these by sending a legal notice of defamation and demanded the removal of defamatory content, concocted stories regarding his divorce.
Meanwhile, Saira finally broke silence on the divorce, and these speculations. In a voice note, as quoted by Indian Expressed, Saira revealed that she has moved to Mumbai due to health reasons. She added, “That’s why I took a break from AR (Rahman). I would request the YouTubers, and Tamil media to not say anything bad against him. He is a gem of a person, the best man in the world. It is just my health issues that I had to leave Chennai. It wouldn’t have been possible with his busy schedule in Chennai.”
She further urged everyone to not tarnish his name. “I trust him with my life. That’s how much I love him, and that’s how much he does too. I request you to stop false allegations. God bless, and my sincere prayers that we are left alone and given a space.”
Saira concluded her note by saying, “We have not officially announced anything yet. Stop tarnishing his name, which is absolutely rubbish. He is a gem of a person.”
Meanwhile, Saira’s lawyer Vandana Shah has opened up on the alimony and the misconceptions about it in India. “In India, the idea of receiving 50% alimony after divorce is a myth. And it’s not documented in law. There is no fixed percentage mandated by the legal system. This misconception has been perpetuated, making people believe that a spouse automatically gets 50% alimony upon divorce. But that is not true. The actual outcome largely depends on the arguments presented in court, the Affidavit of Assets and Liabilities submitted, and the overall context of the case,” she said.
Saira and Rahman have three children – AR Ameen, Khatija Rahman and Raheema Rahman.
