Chhattisgarh: DRG head constable killed in encounter with Maoists in Abujhmarh

RAIPUR: A District Reserve Guard (DRG) Head Constable of Narayanpur district was killed in a fierce encounter with Maoists when she was out on an anti-Naxal search operation in the forests of Abujhmarh on Wednesday.
“During the encounter, DRG Head Constable Birendra Kumar Sori sustained severe injuries while valiantly fighting the Naxals. Despite the efforts, he succumbed at the scene, attaining martyrdom in the line of duty,” a police statement said.
The joint operation was conducted by the District Reserve Guard and the Border Security Force (BSF) that turned into a fierce encounter in the dense forests of Abujhmarh. Police said that a combined team of DRG and BSF departed from Narayanpur district for an anti-Naxal search operation in the border region between Sonpur and Kohkameta regions. The dense and challenging terrain of Abujhmarh posed significant difficulties for the forces.
Intermittent clashes broke out between the joint security forces and Naxal insurgents from 1 pm. The encounter witnessed a heavy exchange of fire when Sori got injured. While the operation is still on, Sori’s body was being brought to base, followed by reinforcements sent to the location.
Sori, 36, was a resident of Narharpur in Kanker district and joined the forces as a Constable in Narayanpur District Police in 2010. He was elevated to Head Constable in 2018 for his gallantry during anti-Naxal operations.
The statement said Birendra Kumar Sori had a distinguished career marked by his unwavering courage and dedication. His heroic actions in previous operations earned him a promotion and recognition for his bravery.
The anti-Naxal search operation is still underway in the region. Security forces are determined to neutralise the insurgent threat and secure the area. Further updates and detailed information will be shared after the conclusion of the operation.
