City & suburbs beef up bandobast for polls today; drones to offer added cover in Thane

Mumbai: Police and civic authorities of Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai have made various arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of state Assembly polls on Wednesday. While Mumbai police have deployed more than 30,000 police personnel across city, Thane City Police Commissionerate has announced extensive security arrangements with over 10,000 cops and drones to keep an eye from the sky.
In Navi Mumbai, too, a large number of police officials have been deployed and circulating areas of all polling booths were cordoned off to ensure a free and fair poll process.
For Mumbai, senior city police officials said comprehensive security measures are in place. “A total of five additional commissioners of police, 20 Deputy Commissioners of Police, 83 Assistant Commissioners of Police, 2,000-plus police officers and 25,000-plus police personnel will be deployed to maintain law and order situation during election in the city,” stated the Mumbai police.
Three Riot Control Platoons (RCP) have been positioned for maintaining order.
Traffic police deployment includes 144 officers and over 1,000 traffic personnel for election duties. Additionally, Over 4,000 Home Guards have been assigned. Authorities have also stationed 26 Central and State Security Forces (CAPF/SAP) at crucial locations, working alongside SST and FST teams.
In Thane, authorities have mobilised an impressive force, deploying 7,980 police officers and personnel from the Thane Police Commissionerate. This is further augmented by 2,088 Home Guards and 18 companies of central forces. Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre expressed confidence in the security arrangements stating, “Our security apparatus is fully prepared to maintain peace and order during elections.” —With inputs from Nishikant Karlikar & B B Nayak
