Hot, humid weather to return in Delhi-NCR despite storm relief, says IMD

NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for hot and humid weather across Delhi-NCR until Friday, with maximum temperatures expected to range between 39°C and 41°C. While the recent rain and hailstorm brought temporary relief, humidity levels are set to rise again. On Wednesday evening, the region was hit by a powerful dust storm accompanied by heavy rain and hail, with wind speeds reaching up to 79 kmph. The storm caused widespread power cuts, uprooted trees, and damaged electrical infrastructure, plunging many areas into darkness for several hours. In Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad, the strong winds led to fallen poles, damaged transformers, and disrupted power lines. Many roads were blocked due to fallen trees, affecting traffic and emergency response.Despite the sudden drop in temperature after the storm, the IMD has warned that hot and humid conditions will return quickly. Authorities continue restoration work in affected areas, while residents are advised to stay indoors during peak heat hours and remain hydrated.
