Tamil actor Kasthuri held for remarks against Telugus

CHENNAI: Actress Kasthuri, wanted in connection with her reported hate speech against Telugu-speaking people, was arrested from a film producer’s house in Hyderabad.
The Egmore police tracked her down to Hyderabad, two days after Madras high court declined to grant her anticipatory bail in connection with the case. A police team is bringing her to Chennai to produce her before a magistrate court.
Kasthuri was booked for making controversial remarks about the Telugu community during a public event on Nov 3. Following her speech, complaints were lodged in several districts, taking exception to the derogatory remarks about Telugu people’s ancestry.
Following the rejection of her anticipatory bail plea by the Madurai bench of the Madras high court on Nov 14, she absconded and kept her mobile phone switched off. She had also posted some social media messages regretting the speech. She also claimed that her speech had been misinterpreted due to political reasons.
However, the state govt opposed anticipatory bail for her saying it was a planned attempt to incite one community against another and create law and order disturbance in the state.
